Every new friend is a new adventure… The start of more memories.
Its been two months and 20 days since I got a flat mate and buoy has it been an experience. When you have lived alone for a long time you fall into certain habits and keep a set of standards and expectations for yourself. So when you start living with someone you have these ideas of what it’s going to be like, but be warned, its nothing like you imagined.
Growing up I’ve always heard my grandma say, “Si mi and come live wid mi, a two different things.” Damn it, mama was right!!!
Over the last couple of month I have learned a new meaning to the words, understanding, compromising, sharing, personal space, moody, and friendship. I have three brothers and three sisters, so I thought I had this all figured out. Wrong again.
Where there is no struggle there is no strength.
I was looking back at it all the other day and I had to laugh. I laughed because I remembered that the reasons I choose to have a flatmate are still valid reasons. I realised that if I gave up without fighting I wouldn’t be me. I decided to treat this as a life lesson, preparing me for when I will have to share my life and space with my future husband, kids, nosy in-laws and all that.
I choose to push through and not spend one moment in doubt or second guessing. But instead I will live my life, make the best of the situation, be happy and come out on the other side better.
If we wait until we’re ready we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives.
I am Destiny Brown saying, The adventure continues.
